Wrap feature vinyl on a wine glass.

Version 4.1 is available as a Beta and one of the newest features to be added to studio is "Wrap"

For years to get vinyl to sit correctly on a curved surface it has been necessary to use another piece of software but finally, we are getting this built into our silhouette software.
I've been playing with this new feature to see how well it works and am pleased to report its.. well ...amazing.

The first thing you will need to do is take some measurements from the item you want to add your vinyl too.
I have chosen a wine glass.
The first thing I noticed was that the feature can only handle one curve at a time and my glass is wider in the middle and curves differently at the top and bottom. This is not going to be an issue as it is easily worked around.

Having picked a wine glass I decided to add a quote from an old TV program. "Just the one". I want this to be on two lines above and below the widest part of the glass.
I typed the text onto my virtual mat first I typed the words "Just the" and then as a new object I typed "One".

The new feature works out the necessary curves to apply to your object according to the measurements you enter. The measurements needed are the circumference or width of the object and the height. My glass is can be divided into two "wraps". wrap one will be measurements A,B and D and wrap two will be measurements B,C and E

Using another handy new feature I added a sticky note to my workspace to keep note of my measurements.

With the word "one" selected click on the arrow below the modify panel button this will open a further selection of tools, the closest to the arrow will open the wrap panel.

Select the icon that looks like a tumbler indicated by the arrow 1 and then click the button indicated by arrow 2. This will now allow you to add your measurements. There are two ways to adjust the wrap applied to your project firstly you can choose to drag the colored dots on the illustration or you can enter your measurements via your keyboard in the boxes below you will see the illustration change as you enter the new figures. the word one will be sitting at the bottom of the curve so I have entered 26.3cm as the top diameter measurement, the height of 5.5cm and 11cm as the bottom diameter.

At this point, you can adjust the position of the text within the curve by adjusting the sliders indicated by the purple arrow. When you are happy click apply.
If your chosen object is only slightly curved you may not see a noticeable difference in your text, but it will have changed.

Select the other text in this case "Just the" and repeat the process entering the measurements for the top half of the glass. Load some vinyl on to you cutting mat and load into the machine. Click on send. Ensure you have selected the correct media type, carry out a test cut and then click send at the bottom of the panel.

I placed a rectangle around my text for ease of weeding.

Allow the cut job to complete and unload your mat. Remove the waste vinyl from around your design and apply some transfer tape to the lift the design. Ensure that you chosen object is thoroughly cleaned and then align the center of your design to the desired location on your object. Start with the widest part of your design and work from the center out, one section at a time smooth the vinyl down onto the object. Remember the transfer tape will not lie smoothly onto the curve and you must allow for this. Burnish down the edges of the vinyl well to avoid lifting
Allow you project to sit for 24hr before use to allow the vinyl to adhere correctly to the glass. Remember if you are giving you class away to advise hand washing.
