I had a ball with this week's free party hat design from Silhouette. I made a hat for my niece Elle's 2nd birthday, plus some extra ones for her teddies and she loved them!
What you’ll need:
- Silhouette CAMEO
- Paper / Card
- Free Silhouette cut file
STEP ONE: Prepare and Cut the Design
For the teddy hats, I kept the design size unadjusted and cut two per A4 sheet. For Elle's hat, I rotated by 90 degrees and resized to 19cm x 29cm so it would fit the A4 page.STEP TWO: Assemble
Roll the card into a cone shape and stick edges using the adhesive of your choice - I used double-sided tape.STEP THREE: Decorate
The design comes with rings, polka dots and a tassel. I used a shiny silver sticker paper for the polka dots and rings. Instead of the tassel, I decided to go retro and have pom-poms instead. I matched this with mini pom-pom trim along the bottom. On one of the teddy hats I added rhinestones long the centre of some ruffled ribbon.I also made accordian rosettes, with the help of my Silhouette to cut the rectangle and then score all the fold lines. Adhere the ends together to make a ring, then gather and press flat, as shown below. Glue a circle either side to hold the rosette in place.
I used some soft fold-over elastic for Elle's hat - kids are spoilt these days, as I remember the pingy elastic cord that used to snap against your chin still from childhood days!
Wow - these are so cute and girly - perfect for a little one's birthday.
ReplyDeleteThat just shows how a very simple design can be taken to a new dimension with a bit of imagination!
