If you Love Me Let Me Sleep Layout | Niki Rowland

Hey there, Niki here today with this layout about my little baby. I love to document the things my children do and regularlyy look to the Silhouette Design Store for fun ways to document these things. This phrase 'if you love me let me sleep' was great for documenting his sleeping.

It didn't work for me in the original format as I wanted a horizontal design. So I ungrouped the design so the words could be moved around and re-arranged.

I then put some of the words at the top of my layout and then 'let me sleep' at the bottom of the layout. The word 'Sleep' I super-sized. I then sent it to cut but I didn't want to cut the word 'sleep' so in cut settings I simply highlighted the work and selected 'no cut'. This means that the rest of the design cut but not the word 'sleep'

I then wanted to cut the word 'sleep' out of patterned paper so I ran it through my silhouette again, this time selecting 'no cut' for the top words and 'cut' for the word 'sleep'.

I then back filled the letters cut into the white cardstock background and added the words cut from patterned paper. I popped them up on foam pads.

I used a mixture of Maggie Holmes Willow Lane ad Amy Tangerine Shine On for this layout.

Baby card - layered card cut with sketch pen sentiment

Hi everyone. It's Verity here from Pretty Little Button bringing you another project. Today's project uses a cut file from silhouette studio to create a layered card animal and a sketch pen sentiment.  

Baby card - layered card cut with sketch pen sentiment details: 

This cut file is from Miss Kate Cutables and she has some fantastic baby animal cut files. When you open up the file, all the layers are separate with no file and a red line. To understand which layer needs to be cut out in which card, I filled each layer with a colour. I then overlayed these to ensure I had the right layers coloured. To ensure the cut out would fit my card, drew out the card using a rectangle adjusting the size to match my cards. 

I knew I wanted a border around the panel of my card, so I used the offset tool to quickly an internal offset at 0.25 to match my card. I was then able to adjust the size of the animal to the card panel. 

To make it quicker to cut, I cut all the layers out in one go. I grouped coloured items together and spaced them apart in the corners. This way I knew I just needed to put a piece of colour card in each corner and just do one cut for all the layers. 

To create the sentiment, I first created a pennant banner using a rectangle and triangle. I place the triangle over one end and use the subtract button in the modify panel. This removed the triangle shape from one end of the rectangle creating a flag end. This was repeated on the other end of the panel. 

For the sentiment I used the Hello Sunshine font which is great for sketch pens. Make sure when you have written your text, you select the simple sketch pen option in the sketch pen window. Load your card into your machine and select the sketch option in the action drop-down list and sketch pen in tool.

Before unloading your mat, switch out the pen for your blade and change to action to cut and the ratchet blade for the tool. This will differ with Cameo 3 as you can have two tools loaded, however, I did this on a Cameo 2. 

To assemble, layer and glue the card pieces of the animal together. Add this onto an ink blended background and find the animal off by using glossy accents on the eyes. Lastly, foam mount the sentiment on the card front.

Brewing Mischief Baby Grow

Hi everyone. It's Verity here from Pretty Little Button bringing you another project. Today's project features the glow in the dark heat transfer vinyl.  When I was browsing the Silhouette store for Halloween designs, I saw this design and instantly knew I wanted to make it into a baby grow. I thought it was such a fun little design that would be funny for a little baby grow as the meaning could mean an array of things! Whatsmore, as it was Halloween related I also used glow in the dark heat transfer vinyl, allowing your baby to join in the fun! Though can't guarantee the baby will sleep with the glow, so perhaps take it off before nap time!

Brewing Mischief Baby Grow details: 

Before I design my piece in the design space, I like to work out how big the decal will be on my item of clothing. I use a piece of a scrap piece of paper cut to a square and position this over the baby grow. I can then look to see if it is too big or too small for the piece of clothing. This piece of paper was cut to 5 inches, which was large enough for the baby grow. I also tried 4 inches which for me was a little on the small side. 

In the end, I ended up creating the design to be around 4.5 inches.

I loaded the Brewing Mischief design into my design space and right clicked to flip horizontally. I do this before the send panel as I wanted to position the design on my mat over a particular area. The top left-hand corner of my mat is starting to lose its stick. So it can slip a little when cutting in that area.

In order to cut out in another area of the mat, I set the page size in the page setup panel to the width of the media. This glow in the dark heat transfer vinyl is 9 inches wide. Now the boundaries of the media are visible, I can position the design over the media and mat in an area where it is more stick for the mat, but also isn't beyond the boundaries of my media. 

I don't have a heat press as I don't do enough HTV to warrant spending the money on one. I instead use an iron. However, I find the set up below works the best for me with an iron. I place a folded up towel and place this on the floor. The item of clothing is placed on top of this, and then I positioned the HTV decal over this. Lastly, I add a sheet of baking paper over the top to prevent and scorching.

I prefer ironing this on the floor as opposed to an ironing board, and this solid surface of the floor allows me to get good pressure when applying the heat. My ironing board isn't the sturdiest and therefore opted for the floor!

I wanted to show you this picture as it was fun; as I was heat setting the vinyl, it kept glowing briefly as I removed the iron. Obviously, it glows in the darkness of the iron over the top, and you get brief glimpses of it before it fades when you removed the iron.

Foxy Baby gift set

Hello, Janet here with a variety of projects using the Silhouette Flocked Heat Transfer Vinyl. I love the velvety texture and have found it doesn't need to be used exclusively on fabrics - it works great on other surfaces too!

I've used the flocked media in orange and white to make a baby gift set using some of the cute fox themed files by Amy Robison (#37332, #40840, #40570). The media and the files are so versatile that I was able to make a range of themed items, and really only touched the surface - there are so many more possibilities for a complete fox-themed baby shower, or child's birthday party. There are other cute animals too, so a complete woodland theme is another possibility.

Baby Vests

My first project was the vest with the complete fox on it (information on the one with the tail comes later). I used the fox file (#37332), and aside from re-sizing, cut it straight from the file in white, orange and black flocked heat transfer (not forgetting to MIRROR BEFORE CUTTING, of course). I applied the single orange piece first and then the white pieces, finishing with the black. There is more information on applying Flocked Heat Transfer in this post.

I made two further vests using Amy's Fox Cupcake Wrapper file (#40840). Yes, you did read that correctly - I used the cupcake file. At first glance I'd thought that the head and tail were separate from the wrapper, but they were actually joined up to the rest of the wrapper, so I used the knife tool to cut them apart. I love, love, LOVE the tail and think it will look SO cute on a baby.

Fox Greeting Card

For this project I used the original Fox file (#37332) and the Print & Cut Woodland Party Invitation file (#40570). The card file is made up from a number of separate Print & Cut elements (thank you for providing all the elements separately Amy, it makes the file SO versatile).

I changed the dimensions to make a square card and just printed the backgrounds (grey on the front, and woodland on the back), together with the oval and the banner, adding the word 'congratulations'.

The word was curved to the shape of the banner by dragging the typed word to the top edge of a copy of the banner shape by the transform handle, then ungrouped, and moved it onto the other copy of the banner. It was filled with white before being sent to print onto heavy-weight white cardstock.

The fox was cut from orange flock, and regular smooth black and white heat transfer from the original fox file, reduced in size to fit the card. I activated the adhesive on the pieces in turn using my heat press, but an iron on a non-steam setting would work too.

I love the velvety texture of the fox on the card. You'll find details of applying flocked heat transfer to card here and here.

Fox Wall Art

This is a plain canvas with a piece of printable cotton canvas adhered to the top and sides, and the flocked fox applied on top. For this project I also used the original Fox file (#37332) and the Print & Cut Party Invitation file (#40570).

The fox was cut as for the original version of the baby vest and applied to the background BEFORE it was attached to the canvas. This order of work makes it so much easier than trying to apply the heat transfer direct to the canvas.

The woodland background was printed with the grey background (taken from the invitation file) onto a piece of Silhouette Printable Cotton Fabric. You can read all about printing on the printable cotton here. A piece of regular patterned fabric could be substituted, but I was unable to find anything suitable locally, this is where the printable cotton really comes into its own.

After applying the fox to the woodland background, I ironed the whole piece onto the canvas. I then used fabric adhesive around the edges to secure the background to the canvas.

Quick Baby Gift in Metallic Vinyl

Hello, Janet here with a quick and easy gift idea using this week's featured product for the Silhouette UK Design Team  - Silhouette Metallic Vinyl. I've applied the vinyl to a blank acrylic shape and added a pretty ribbon, job done (or so I thought, only I'd made a teeny mistake, so job took slightly longer). I'm sharing my mistake/happy accident here and showing how I sorted it super fast!

Now, time was ticking on this project; I needed a gift for a friend with a new baby for the same afternoon, so time was VERY tight. I knew she wanted a 'do not disturb' type sign to hang on her outside door, so I popped over to the Silhouette Design Store and purchased the Baby Sleeping Door Hanger file by Ginny Nelson (#28287).

The file needed minimal work, just ungrouping to isolate the phrase, and reducing in size to fit an acrylic blank I had to hand (luckily). I cut the phrase from teal coloured Silhouette Metallic Vinyl, which I hadn't used before - it's super shiny and a perfect match for the blue spotty ribbon I'd had in my stash for an age. The recommended settings worked like a dream, it seemed, and I seemed to be  making good time. The problem was, when I lifted the design onto the transfer tape the dots following 'Shhh' and above the 'i' remained attached to the waste and were not going to detach successfully. I'd obviously reduced the design to a smaller size than it was intended to be. In my haste I'd forgotten to cut any extras.

Here is the transferred designs with no dots. As you can see on the piece of vinyl in the picture, I recut a couple of rows of freshly made dots in different sizes, each row with it's own weeding box. It also occurred to me that I might be able to use stars instead, so I added a few rows of them to see what they'd look like. I've linked to a star file at the bottom of this page, but any five-pointed star would do.

This time around I amended the cut settings, and added an overcut. I added a tick in the box as shown below. This activates the default overcut settings (you can read more about Overcut here).

I lifted one of the rows of stars onto the transfer tape, waste and all, and pulled the waste away after. This is a form of reverse weeding, and very useful, especially for tiny pieces.

The spacing of the stars was a little wide, so I transferred them to the blank one at a time.

I added the ribbon (no time for a bow) and the gift was finished. There was no time for a pretty gift bag or wrapping paper, just a presentable piece of tissue paper, and my gift and I were ready to go.

I like my little adaptation to the design, I hope you do too.
