Wriggle Hiss Hiss | A Layout just for Fun by Niki Rowland

Hey guys, Niki here today. Do you know just how great the Silhouette Design Store is??? Whenever I need a design to document a particular event or memory in my life, I can guarantee that the Silhouette Design Store will have it! Literally any quote, animal, shape - ANYTHING!

This is what's just soooo great about owning a Silhouette machine - the Design Store is so vast and has so many 1000s of designs and I'm so grateful for the diversity of the designs available.

For this layout I needed a snake. I typed 'snake' into the search box in the Design Store and it came up with loads of options. I picked one and cut the design from patterned paper - such an easy and quick process!

The snake was obviously the focal point on my layout and I also added lots of bits and pieces of ephemera and other embellishments from the Boys Rule collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio. I added my title using Thickers stickers.

I love the way the layout turned out and I love even more that if I want a snake shape for my layout I can have one instantly using my fabulous Silhouette Machine and a design from the Design Store - so awesome!

Thanks for joining me today and happy scrapping xx

Accordion shadow box card

Hello everyone!

Maria with you today and I have yet another baby card for you... Sorry! It's like all my friends and family are popping out babies recently! (apologies for the crude description! haha)

So this is a very good friend of mine from my university days. We haven't seen each other much in the last decade (the downside of living in different countries!) but we have kept in touch. So I wanted a very special card for her and her new baby, something that she could maybe keep as a small room decoration or keepsake, and I found this gorgeous cut file on the design store.

Please join me in creating this card step by step!

What you will need:

- Silhouette Cameo or Portrait
- Cardstock
- Pattern paper
- Glue

Instructions:

First of all open your Silhouette Studio and bring up your design from your library. I have gone for this baby inspired one, but Carina Gardner, the designer, has got many many more to choose from on the Silhouette Store!

When I opened it, I noticed that it looked a bit too small. The description of the item on the Design Store says that when complete, it will measure 2.25 x 3.25 inches. That is a bit small for me, so I am going to try to make it as big as it will fit!

After enlarging it, I realise that I want to use kraft coloured cardstock for my background as in the sample, but the only card I've got at the moment in that colour is A4 size, so I go ahead and change the page size and rotate my design vertically to fit.

Next it's time to ungroup all the elements of the design, as they are all together and you wouldn't be able to send to cut in the way the design comes.

You can find the Ungroup function on the top bar in your screen, or you can right click and select ungroup.

Now go ahead and select all the coloured shapes and move them out of your mat, so you can send the base to cut.

I only realised until it was too late, but I failed to notice the white part of the horse... that should have been moved too! My design cut well, though, so not harm done.

So simply send every element to cut in the colour cardstock or pattern paper that you would like. And assemble it!

Despite having enlarged my design to fit as big as possible, I still felt that it was very fiddly to put together. My verdict? Only go for it if you have the patience to do fiddly work! I still feel like it's a gorgeous card and I know that my friend will love it.

Here it is!

I hope you have liked it, and read you very soon!

String keeper solution

Hello friends!

Maria here with you today with a very quick project. Don't you love it when you can create really functional things with your Silhouette? Yes, making cards, home décor and scrapbooking layouts is amazing and I love it! but when I make a project that is cute AND functional at the same time, then I feel like my purchase of the Silhouette is totally validated :)

String keeper solution | Silhouette Cameo

So, who else has this problem?

I have bought thread and bakers twine in bulk before from ebay and it's come totally loose, so this project has solved my problem!

What you will need:

- Silhouette Cameo or Portrait
- Cardstock
- Glue
- Baker's twine or thread

Instructions

This is a very straightforward project, so hopefully you can follow along without any problems! I am using three designs by Planeta Silhouette. They actually have four animals in their string keeper collection, but the fourth was a reindeer which I don't really want, as I have a thing about Christmassy items being used outside the season!

Open your Silhouette Studio and bring your files to the mat. You can do it one by one or bring all three at the same time in case you want to resize them, then you can do them together so they stay the same size.

I do not know how big or small the completed project has to be, as I haven't seen these before in real life, so I am assuming that the size that they come up as is how they are supposed to be. So I am not going to resize them.

I love that the shapes are already coloured as this makes it so easy for cutting and assembling! I am, however, a bit puzzled about the fact that the head shape is doubled up. Surely you can just glue the eyes, nose, etc directly into the background shape? Anyway, I am going to be a good girl and do as instructed as I am sure there is a reason for it!

If you want, you can cut all three shapes in one go. Simply prepare your cardstock, and cut it to size and arrange it on your mat:

The cardstock that I am going to be using for all these shapes is quite heavy, so I have to make sure that my settings are correct before I send to cut. I will also bring the speed down a bit, as the eyes and noses are quite small, and I want them to cut properly.

And once all your shapes are cut, it's time to assemble your cute little animals! Aren't they super cute?

And here they are with the bakers twine around them!

Now, I must confess that I have only made three for the purposes of this tutorial, but I am going to need at least five more for all the thread/bakers twine that I still have loose!

I hope you have liked this project, and read you soon!
