Painting on Fabric and Making your own Rhinestone words.

Hi, Karen here with a little project I wanted to make for my daughter as a 'going back to Uni' present.  A couple of years ago she sent me a photo of herself in a frog onesie and I used it on the layout below.

We sometimes refer to her as our Frog Girl (her boyfriend is Lizard Boy but that's another story for another t-shirt), and as I wanted to experiment with the Hobbyjack printing inks decided to make her a Frog Girl T-shirt.

What you will need:-
Cameo
Vinyl
Fabric paint
Transfer paper
Silhouette tool kit
Silhouette Rhinestones
Rhinestone Setter

STEP 1 - Painting your T-shirt.

• I chose a frog design from the Silhouette store and resized it to 8 ins wide.  I then centered it on my page and drew dashed lines (leave a small gap between the design and the dashed line) on the two centre lines to help me centre the design on the shirt. I also drew an 11.5 square around the design so that I had perfectly straight edges to work with. 

• Next I cut the design out from a 12 x 12 piece of vinyl .

• I used some transfer paper to remove the flourish from the sheet of vinyl and carefully peeled the backing from the vinyl and placed it onto the T-shirt using the centered lines I had cut to work out where the design needed to go on the T-shirt. 

• I then added the flurish and made sure all the edges of the design were firmly pressed down to stop the ink from bleeding under the vinyl. I put my silicone craft mat inside the T-shirt to stop the ink going onto the back of the T-shirt
• I used a wide, flat paintbrush to apply the colour from the Hobbyjack starter pack.  I mixed my own colour in an old plastic egg carton.  The paint goes a long way and in fact I mixed up way too much.  I set the T-shirt aside to dry.

  

• Once dry I peeled off the vinyl and ironed the painted area to fix the colour.

STEP 2 - Making your rhinestone words

• While I was waiting for the ink to dry I designed my rhinestone word to go underneath the frog.
• I wrote my words using Ariel 144 point font.
• Next I drew a circle .128 in round - this size is really important as it is the correct size for placing the small rhinestones. 
• In the replicate menu I used the Row of Four several times to give me a long row of circles and then, with them all selected, used the Column of Four to give me plenty of circles to work with.

I used the circles to fill the letters, making sure that the spacing was the same on all of them.

• Finally I deleted the outline writing to leave my shape ready for cutting and placing my rhinestones.   

• I cut my words from a piece of cardstock and placed them were I wanted them to go.  I added a Silhouette Rhinestone to each of the holes and set them with the Silhouette Rhinestone setter.
• Once it had cooled I cardstock template and stood back to admire the lovely T-shirt.

It was so easy to design my own rhinestone words that I am sure it is something I shall be using again in the not too distant future!

Silhouette Stamping Starter Kit Introduction

Hello, Bev here with a tutorial on how you can use the Silhouette Stamping Starter Kit to create your very own customised stamps!

What you will need:

• Silhouette Stamping Starter Kit
• Silhouette Cameo/Portrait 
• Card or paper for using your stamps on 

Step One:

You get everything you need to make stamps in the starter kit, which means you can get started right away!  Start by opening up a new page in silhouette studio

 You will need to change your cutting mat to STAMP in the design page settings.

You can then choose a shape from your library and resize it to your needs.  There is a card included in the box which gives you 10 exclusive designs to use and its absolutely free! To redeem this you need to log into your account and go to the My Account section of the store.  Scroll down to REDEEM A PROMOTIONAL DOWNLOAD CARD, and enter the code under the scratch off panel on the back of the card.  These designs will then be available in your library for future use.

I chose the honeycomb design and rezised it to suit my project.

I also selected a today design as I wanted to use this in the future for my to do lists and planner.  I resized these by opening up the scale window and changing the width and height.

Step Two:

The next step after choosing your designs is to ensure that the cut settings are correct and you can do this by clicking on the cut settings icon.  The cut lines will show as thick red lines.

In cut settings, select Stamp material in the drop down menu and it will then advise you of the blade setting needed.  In this case it is 9 (the stamp material is fairly thick)
You will also need to adjust the rollers on your Silhouette machine to accomodate the smaller mat.  You can do this by flipping down the blue lever on the righthand side of the machine and gripping the bar gently, whilst holding the white roller and twisting it off out of the groovess.  It can then be moved along to the next set of grooves and locked into place.  Remember to push the lever back up to secure the bar ready for loading the mat.

The mat comes with a protective white covering and this should be removed before placing your stamp material onto the mat.

Once the mat is loaded you can then send the design to cut.

Step Three:

Your design will then proceed to cut and you can unload it as normal after it has finished.
I peeled back the unused stamp material from the mat and then removed my designs.  Some weeding may be needed, but you should be left with a clean design stamp ready for mounting onto the acrylic block.

Included in the starter kit you are supplied with three different sized acrylic blocks and an ink pad.

Place your design on a flat surface and choose an acrylic block to mount it to.  You can then ink the stamp (either by stamping directly onto the pad, or dab the stamp pad onto the stamp)

This is the best kit for people wanting to create their own stamps, as everything is there for you to get started right away.

Scrapbook Layout using Printable Silver Foil

Hiya Lovelies, Niki here again today playing with the silver printable foil. I'm very into my foiling (proud owner of a Minc Machine lol) but the printable foil by Silhouette takes things to a whole new level - you can print on it!  This is a very exciting prospect becuase the Silhouette Design Store has a whole load of gorgeous print and cut files, which will be made all the more special if they are printed on foil rather than plain cardstock.

I chose a Print & Cut file from Design Store and opened it up in Silhouette Studio. I changed my mat size to 'letter' so that it was the US size of 8.5" x 11" (which is the size of the foil), re-sized so it was a big as possible, and then I added registration marks. I hit File-Print and printed the design onto the silver foil, that I just put into the paper tray of my printer. The printed design on the foil was flawless. I then popped it on my Silhouette Mat and ran it through the Silhouette machine (I just used the default Printable Foil settings) and it cut it out beautifully.

I did the same thing with 'Love this Dude' and the Stars and cut those out too.

 

Assembling the layout was the most fun part - I used patterned papers and multiple embellishments to compliment my foiled embellishments which really make the layout shine.

I really enjoyed working with the printable foil - hopefully I'll get some gold soon too!
