Caroline here again with another scrapbook layout called home...

Here is the shape I used and I LOVE IT!

This is such a super simple layout but it work so well for cards too.

All I did was bring in the shape on to the cutting mat and make it large, I wanted a fresh feel to it so used plain white and chose a duck egg blue background.

Once the shape was cut I used my sewing machine to attach it to the background page and then a double layer of foam dots behind most of the leaves.

To add even more dimension I roughed up the edges of the leaves to stand out a bit more. It makes such a difference as the shadows look divine.

I then added my photo on top of pretty papers and some embellishments to finish it off.

It really is so simple but I'm chuffed to bits with how it ended up.

Make your own crackers - free file

I don't know about you, but by the 7th December I am either panicking because nothing has been bought, or panicking as I have spent too much money. That's when I start to get grumpy, and nothing makes me grumpier than crackers, and it is so horrible to feel grumpy as a Grinch. They look lovely on the table, but to have anything even half decent inside, they can cost an absolute fortune, and when I say "half decent", just how many pairs of nail clippers does a guy/girl need?

So quite often I make my own crackers, and as I couldn't find quite what I wanted in the Silhouette design shop, I whipped up a file for you and me, to make them super quick. It could be made from thin card, but I used copier paper, as it is so easy to tear apart to get to the inside treat!

N.B. When cutting copier paper with your Silhouette, it is best to use a mat that is hardly sticky at all, or else it can tear even before you make the cracker!

To make the supportive inside tube, cut some card 16.5 x 7.5 cm. Overlap the ends by about a centimetre and secure with sticky tape.

Download my free file as given above. Open it within your software. This is what it looks like. The green lines are perforated lines to help with the tearing action!

Ideas for the main rectangle

• Fill it with colour
• Use a pattern fill
• Use a sticker file and cut out the pattern you like using the knife tool. You can then enlarge the pattern as I show below.

Print your sheet out and then place on the carrier mat. Check that your cut settings are for the card or copier paper that you are using. Adjust the blade depth if needed. Registration marks should be on. Send to cut.

Remove the paper from the Silhouette.

I use a Scotch Advanced Tape Glider to apply glue along one side of the large sheet, and wrap it around the card core. It is easy to squeeze the "necks" and then decorate to your heart's content.

I used the Lori Whitlock design to cut a band of coloured card to go around the middle, and a skunk as it matched the design so well.

What I love about this is the versatility. You can make crackers to suit your colour or theme. I want to print out paper with foxes for me, mushrooms for my son and stags for my daughter. I want to write their names all over the base paper in gold Silhouette pen ink. I could make crackers with 2017 all over them for New Year. Imagine personalised wedding crackers. The list just goes on and on. I would LOVE to see your creations!

String Art Christmas Tree

Hey Silhouette fans, welcome to the 6th Day of Christmas and it's Niki here with a Christmas scrapbook page. One of my favourite things to do is backfill a large shape with lots of different patterned papers. I couldn't find quite what I wanted in the Design Store so set about designing my own cut file. Now, I have to admit that I'm quite lazy when it comes to doing this becuase there are sooooooooooo many designs in the Design Store that usually I figure it's easier to let someone else so the work for me. But I thought I'd give it a go anyway. I don't have the Designer Edition, and I'm not great at desiging my own files in Studio, but I'm pretty good using Microsoft Publisher, so I made myself a black shape in there, fiddled around until I was happy and I was then left with what you see below.

I saved the file as a PNG and then opened it up in Studio. I then treated it like other PNG files and simply traced it to turn it into a cut file. This worked perfectly and  I then cut out my christmas tree. The lines were a little too skinny so I backfilled my shapes using glue rather than raising each shape up on sticky foam pads. I could have re-cut and made the lines fatter using the Offset tool but on this occasion I was happy with a flat Christmas Tree. I used Fancy Pants 'Wish Season' papers to fill the tree and then raised the whole thing up on foam pads and turned it into a layout.

Easy & Colorful Christmas Stocking

Hey there, it's Sara. Today I'll show you how you can use different textures of heat transfer vinyl to decorate a Christmas stocking. On this tutorial I have used flock, Glitter, gold foil and smooth vinyl.


What you need:
Colored flock heat transfer vinyl
Colored glitter heat transfer vinyl
Colored smooth heat transfer vinyl
Gold foil heat transfer vinyl
Plain stocking
Pom pom ribbon
Silhouette Cameo/Portrait/Curio
PEPPERMINT  Design (ID #52688)
LW SPLENDID FONT Font ( ID #70505)

PREPARING YOUR DESIGN:

Start with using white smooth heat transfer vinyl or white flock heat transfer vinyl, make a a rectangular to cover the top part of your stocking, where you will have the child's name later on.

Cut and heat press on to your stocking.

Using the LW SPLENDID font, write the child's name. Resize it to fit inside the rectangular shape and in the end mirror the name.

Cut and heat press on top of the white heat transfer vinyl.


Next step will be to decorate the rest of the stocking with the Peppermint shape, create different sizes of it and duplicate it twice, enough to scatter them around your stocking filler.  Cut them in  the different heat transfer material and colors you have.

In the end place them in different places on your stocking filler and heat press them on.

Now you can sew the border of the white vinyl with the pom pom ribbon.
End result, a colorful and unique stocking filler, that both adults and children would love!

Quick Teacher's Gift - Mini Kilner Jar Tealight Holders

Hello, hello, Karen here with an idea for a quick teacher's gift. I came across these cute little Kilner jars in The Range and I think they were about £1.50 or they may have been less. 

All you have to do for this very quick project is to cut out a silhouette of a town, from either black paper or vinyl and adhere it to your jar.

Step 1 - Cutting the silhouette of the town.

• Measure the circumference of your jar.  Mine was 8.5 ins.
• Open your chosen cutting file and duplicate right 
• Move the two shapes so that they slightly overlap.
• Ungroup the two designs and weld the two sets of buildings, also remove any elements you don't want before regrouping. 
• Then resize it so that the width is the same as the circumference of your jar  

• You are now ready to cut your design from either vinyl or paper.
• Once cut adhere to your mini-Kilner jar and add some stars with glitter glue.
• Add a tealight and you have a very quick but very pretty Teacher's gift.
