Design Team Introduction :: Janet Packer

Hi,Janet Packer here, living in North East Scotland with my husband and shaggy dog, Beckett. 

I'm a passionate crafter who loves to share my crafting experiences and learn from others. Owning a Silhouette Cameo has kick-started my creativity and I'm happy to write about the things I make and how I go about making them.  

I love to investigate and experiment with new shapes, techniques and materials and like the results to be clean, bright and tactile. Sometimes I design from scratch but frequently combine and pick and choose from Silhouette Design Files to make something unique.  

Until recently, I worked in libraries, leading story times, hosting workshops, and tutoring literacy, Internet and iPad use. Now an empty-nester, I spend my time making and creating just about anything from paper, card, fabric and vinyl. Aside from crafting, I enjoy photography, live music, good food and the lovely Scottish countryside.

Welcome to the free shape weekly challenge :: Week 2

Each week we will do a challenge with the free shape offered by the Silhouette store, I thought this would be a great place to start as everyone can have the file for free

If you enjoy this I think we may have a monthly challenge with a theme rather than a design so you can get even more creative and we can get some prizes for these too!

This is a great shape that cam be used on all machines including Mint and Curio and out of so many materials too!
I really can't wait to see what you make with it 

Challenge :: Free Design of the week - Retro Valentines Mailbox

It is here!!! Our first (of many, I hope!) Weekly Challenge!

Each week we will do a challenge with the free shape offered by the Silhouette store, I thought this would be a great place to start as everyone can have the file for free

If you enjoy this I think we may have a monthly challenge with a theme rather than a design so you can get even more creative and we can get some prizes for these too!

So without further a do, this could be more of a complicated challenge as it is a 3D print and cut file but I know how talented our customers are so I have every faith in you!

It is open to anyone who wishes to enter and there will be a little widget to make it super easy for you to link your project in to the challenge.

As the blog is only a week old and I don't know if anyone will take part (please do!!) we don't have a prize at the moment but we will have a Gold, Silver and Bronze blog award for the top 3 entries to display on their blogs with pride!

Please feel free to talk about the challenge on your blogs too and share with friends, the more interest we get the better the prize will be!

Free design of the week

Have you seen the new free design of the week yet?
I really like this one as you can do SO much with it!

From next week I would like to set up a little challenge for you all to join in with, It will run from Tuesday to the following Monday each week and I will add a little widget for you to link you blog post with the project in.

I don't know what the response rate will be yet as the blog is so new so we wont have any prizes for the first month or so but I will do some blog award badges for the top 3, I am thinking Gold, Silver and Bronze

FAQ: Differences between the different Silhouette Studio softwares

  

We get a lot of questions here at Silhouette UK about the different type of software that is available. So I thought this little chart may be of use to you when deciding what software is right for you.

You get the basic edition free, on a disk with your machine or you can download it from the Silhouette America Website, if you want to upgrade your software then you have three choices, Designer Edition, Designer Edition + and the Business Edition.

 When looking at the RRP of each software please note that you will only pay the difference from your last upgrade, for example if you had the Designer Edition and wanted to upgrade to the Designer Edition + you would only pay the difference of £20.00
